How can brands advertise in ChatGPT? A practical guide

The advertising stack is documented, but access and country availability still need careful verification. Here is what brands can prepare without guessing about rollout, pricing or eligibility.

An abstract blue conversation sculpture, campaign card and measurement dial on a warm ivory set.

Short answer: OpenAI now documents ad accounts, Ads Manager, measurement tools and an API for campaign management. Brands can use the official signup route to request access. Public documentation does not, however, establish a worldwide launch date, universal access in Turkey or one minimum budget. Advertiser eligibility and target-location availability must be checked separately.

What are ChatGPT Ads?

OpenAI’s official Ads overview describes ChatGPT Ads as helping customers discover relevant products and services. It documents a measurement pixel and Conversions API for outcomes, plus an Advertiser API for programmatic ad creation and performance monitoring.

An ad account owns campaigns, ad groups, creative, audiences, feeds and conversion sources. The technology is substantial, but the first brand decision is simple: which genuine customer question can the offer answer? A campaign framed around a useful need is stronger than an attempt to “be present in AI” without a clear job.

Where can the ads appear?

OpenAI’s targeting guide names three broad platform groups: ChatGPT on the web, the iOS app and the Android app. Web includes desktop and mobile browsers; it is not a desktop-only category.

The documented chat card creative contains a title, short body, image and destination URL. Public documentation does not promise one exact placement or moment across every conversation. Avoid planning around unverified claims that an ad always sits inside an answer, behaves like a search result or reaches every user.

Who can advertise, and how does access work?

The official overview links to a “Sign Up to Advertise” route. To build or manage campaigns, a brand needs an ad account; accounts using the API can issue an advertiser key from Ads Manager settings.

Account-management documentation distinguishes the legal business name, internal account name, public brand name and advertiser icon. Account status, brand review and account-integrity review are separate. Each ad also has a creative review. An “active” status on its own is not proof that all requirements are complete or that the campaign will deliver.

Turkey: separate account eligibility from targeting

As of 9 October 2026, the official public pages we reviewed do not publish an advertiser-country list that explicitly confirms account availability for a business based in Turkey. It would be inaccurate to promise access before the signup and review flow confirms it.

Targeting is a different question. The location-targeting guide tells advertisers to use the ad account’s current location lookup for countries, regions and markets. A valid ISO country code is not, by itself, evidence that the location is available to that account.

Two checks that should not be combined.

How do budgets, bidding and targeting work?

OpenAI’s bidding guide documents daily and lifetime campaign budgets; impression, click and conversion objectives; and fixed bids, maximize-clicks and maximize-conversions strategies. A conversion campaign needs an active standard conversion event.

The dollar figures in the technical examples are expressly illustrative. Public documentation does not state one universal minimum budget or fixed CPM/CPC. Confirm currency, bid limits and enabled strategies inside the specific ad account.

Geography, platform, custom audiences and context hints can work together. Context hints describe products, use cases or needs; they are not exact-match keywords. Start with the customer problem and the offer’s fit, rather than an undifferentiated “reach everyone” audience.

What can brands measure?

The reporting guide documents impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC and CPM, alongside attributed conversion reporting. A browser pixel can send site events; the Conversions API can send server-side events.

Choose the business outcome before launch: a completed form, qualified enquiry, purchase or another useful event. Test UTM parameters, the conversion event and the post-submit journey before spending. Launching a campaign and having trustworthy measurement are separate pieces of work.

How should a brand prepare the ad and landing page?

Campaign-management documentation says a standard chat-card title must be 3–50 characters and the body can be no longer than 100 characters. JPEG, PNG or WebP imagery must be at least 640 × 640 pixels. The destination must be an accessible HTTP/HTTPS URL. Editing creative starts a new review.

1. Give the copy one job

Use the title for the outcome or benefit; use the body to clarify relevance. Replace broad “AI-powered future” language with a concrete action or improvement. Tight limits reward a disciplined creative brief.

2. Let the image add information

Show the product, context or result rather than repeating the headline. Avoid tiny copy, fake interfaces and unsupported badges. Make sure the brand and subject remain legible at small mobile sizes.

3. Continue the promise on the landing page

  • Repeat the same offer and language above the fold.
  • Use one primary action and remove unnecessary form fields.
  • Review mobile speed, accessibility, privacy notices and consent.
  • Test UTMs, the conversion event and the post-form state on real devices.

Common questions

Can an advertiser based in Turkey open a ChatGPT Ads account?

As of 9 October 2026, OpenAI’s public documentation does not provide a country list that explicitly confirms advertiser-account availability in Turkey. Account eligibility and whether Turkey can be targeted are separate questions and should be checked through the signup flow and the current location lookup available to an ad account.

Is there a published minimum budget for ChatGPT Ads?

OpenAI’s public documentation does not state one universal minimum. Dollar amounts in the technical guides are illustrative; available currencies, bid limits and strategies depend on the ad account.

Where can ChatGPT ads appear?

OpenAI documents web, the iOS app and the Android app as separate platform groups. The inventory and placements available to a particular advertiser should be confirmed in Ads Manager.

Can every brand start advertising immediately?

No. A brand needs ad-account access, and account, brand and creative reviews are distinct. An active status alone does not guarantee delivery.
